The Royals Next Door
by Karina Halle
I have had high hopes for this one for months because a friend got an advanced copy and loved it so much. It was finally released at the end of summer and I got my copy from the library and was not disappointed! Piper is a teacher who lives on a small island off the coast of Vancouver Island. She lives with her mom, who has some mental health conditions, and the two women basically keep to themselves as far as friends and community go. Suddenly, Prince Eddie and Monica (very clearly based on Prince Harry and Megan) rent the mansion next door to their house (which is technically on very nearby property since it was originally the guest house) and their bodyguard Harrison is the bane of Piper's existence. The very hot, mysterious, British bane. Their relationship is excellent, Piper's personality and inner world are so relatable, and there are many other reasons to love this inclusive book (lots of talk of mental health and standing up for romance novel readers, etc). I'm excited to read the next in the series about one of the other bodyguards who we met briefly, whenever it comes out. Bonus, this book got me my first bingo in my Fall Book Bingo Challenge.
