The Year of Jubilee by Cindy Morgan
4.0
reflective sad slow-paced

A great Southern fiction story in the time of a town called Jubilee getting ready for integration. This follows the family of the Mockingbirds. They are half Native American (the dad) and white (the mom). It was interesting to see how they are a bit looked down on just like their Black neighbors at this time.

Grace and Issac are little dears. Poor Issac falls ill and his family (his mother and Grace specifically) try to help in the best ways they can think of. I felt that Grave was brave in the things she did at the age of 13.

The story is heartfelt and sad. Of course there are parts that make you feel angry, but ultimately fall in love with (most) of this town and this family.
