Honest, sensitive, practical — like a wise and trustworthy friend, this book reveals how good intentions and systemic issues lead to covering up and enabling abuse in our churches and how better intentions and stronger community can create healing and safety. I don't use "must read" often but this is truly a must-read for pastors, lay leaders, and engaged church members of all kinds. It's part personal narrative, part Bible study, part case study, and would be an excellent resource for any church library. It includes footnotes that lead to other important resources, like the work of Rev. Evinger and the FaithTrust Institute (https://www.faithtrustinstitute.org/) and the consultation services of Susan Beaumont and Associates (http://www.susanbeaumont.com/), but I do wish there was a separate and more robust resources section. I think it's clear that a lot of good people are simply floundering with how to handle these matters. Trusted guidance and clear procedures are as important as courage and faithfulness here.
