I have never been much into fantasy reads and prefer to indulge in them only rarely. But I am always definitely interested in giving short stories a shot. Sneh Sapru is a renowned playwright and this is her first book. As the title suggests, these stories are set in Mumbai, a city that is often termed as busy and vibrant. Segregated into nine stories, Sneh has poured out her imagination into these pages, pushing the readers to experience a different world through her eyes. Few mythical creatures make an appearance and the very first story features the very well known Medusa. If you like fantasy and enjoy short stories, this one's a good mix of both.

The very first story had me hooked. Medusa, living in a brothel of Kamathipura, known for her insatiable appetite attracts all sorts of men as her clients. The protagonist who pays a visit is both surprised and shocked by what he witnesses during his time with her. As this one ends, several unique stories unfurl. A story in which a woman's tears grants people their wishes, actors who compete with each other by modifying their bodies into something mythical, creatures living in the sea who kidnap fishermen and a story involving birds and drugs. These stories were unlike anything I've ever read and gave my imagination wings. Although there were few that didn't work for me, my favourites were that of Medusa and the last one that speaks of a Goddess.

Sneh's writing is crisp and neat, making the reading experience enjoyable. She undertakes a dark sense of humour which contrasts superbly well with the essence of these stories. Albeit, I liked reading these stories, few of them failed to impress me due to various reasons but it goes without saying that to true fantasy readers, this many end up being a real treat. Couple of stories were unsuccessful in connecting with me. But her writing flair doesn't go unnoticed. I would definitely look forward to reading more by her.
