I went into this book with different expectations, thinking it was mostly a mystery and that a lot of time would be spent on who the villain was - that actually gets wrapped up very quickly, and then the bulk of the book is simply a suspenseful romp around a rest stop in a snowstorm. The premise and the atmosphere were this book’s greatest strengths, and I’m sad more time wasn’t spent on the mystery and tension of the protagonist trying to find out who the kidnapper is. The characters were reasonably shallow, but it’s a suspense thriller, so that can be forgiven. I’m not a fan of books whose horror and tension purely comes from violence and body horror, but I will say that all the plot twists in this book surprised me.

Overall, a great suspense thriller that misses opportunities to milk suspense and develop its characters.
