Sharp Objects is everything I expect from Gillian Flynn and more. The premise is horrible, the characters all wounded and mean, the plot wicked and wild with twists and turns both expected and unpredictable. For once I actually cared for the protagonist and was invested in her stability as she went deeper into the darkness of small town murders and her own painful past there. Flynn has a knack for writing about really brutal women and the violence they inflict outwards and inwards in a world which isn't really made for us.
