I wasn't wowed by this book.
Although the book itself constantly pointed out its cliché comments, all of the characters were completely cliché as well and even if that was what the author was trying to do, I didn't enjoy it much.
Juliet, The teenage blonde with a girly name and an empty head.
Artemis, the 12 year old genius.
Butler, the tough bodyguard.
Holly, the determined fighter.
Root, the grumpy but eventually likeable man of authority.
Foaly, the sassy science guy.
Mulch, the clever thief.
Now, there's nothing wrong with these types of characters. It's just that they all had absolutely no personality, other than what I just mentioned. They're that easy to explain. They're not complicated or quirky or unpredictable or anything. They are just... that.
Also, I felt that the book was kind of contradicting itself in a funny way. Artemis was made out to be sooo smart, yet I never really got that impression. Root was the best commander out there, and I also never got that impression. Mulch was scared to death of going anywhere near the surface, so he decided on a career of basically living above ground. Like, what?
It was a good book, maybe for tweenage boys or similar. I'm hoping the series will get better. This one just didn't cut it for me.
