First of all, this book have to part. The novel and a short story, at the end, that use as a prelude to the novel.
The novel start slowly but keep us interested in the story, the characters have a bit of mystery that attach us and keep us going for knowing more, and when we finally understand it, it's brilliant and original. That is the only good part about it. Because the story is slow, the description of snow, snowing and driving in the snow are good and well done but repetitive and happen too often, back at the story, it's slow but the real problem is, we could have a good slow story and it would have been okay, but instead we find our self in a slow story that explode at the end (maybe the last 40 pages) into a big, big but really big apocalyptic plan that came out of nowhere and then end. The ending is okay but no more.
The short story is not well written, and probably is the idea that inspired the novel, but when you have read the novel there is not so much to learn from it, because the character tell a lot about what happen in it during the main story of the novel so...
Finally, I was once a good fan of Koontz, but the last two books I read from him are just big deception. I will probably give a another chance one day, but it will probably be his last. You can think of this book has much closer to 2.5 stars then the 3 I had to give it.
