The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan
4.5

I have long been a fan of the novellas and short stories Rick Riordan has written in the Percy Jackson universe, and The Chalice of the Gods has very much of the same feel of these, albeit it is a full-length novel. This is a much lower-stakes sorry than we're used to in the novels, a pure adventure story full of character moments and a distinct lack of apocalypses. I really enjoyed it.

Percy here is on the verge of adulthood, planning for his future at New Rome University, and I really loved reading his point of view at this age (while it's set before the Trials of Apollo series, it's a different experience seeing Percy from the perspective of Apollo).  His relationship with Annabeth is perfect as always, and it's great to see them finally on a quest with Grover again.

While I admit my favourite Riordan books tend to be the big series finales with battles and earth-shattering events, I do also love his quieter, more character-centric books. Percy still needs two more recommendation letters and I really hope we get books detailing his adventures.
