This book should be called the personal guard of the King of Attolia. I know that the books are not single minded in their point of view story telling and that is nice. The guard is not very interesting though, we see everything from his side of the story and his opinions, but he does not have a solid backstory. What feeling do we want to have about this guard? The goal might be neutrality to enhance the shift in stance but if I am following a person I want to feel something.
