bahareads 's review for:
Oedipus Tyrannus;
by Mortimer Lamson Earle, Sophocles
“Let every man in mankind's frailty consider his last day; and let none presume on his good fortune until he find Life, at his death, a memory without pain.”
An ancient tragedy with patricide and incest, Oediupus Tyrannus is one play I must eventually seen in person. Fate is unavoidable and by trying to avoid it, you'll probably stumble right into it. Poor Oedipus tried and failed but what can you do when you're randomly cursed at birth.
Oedipus, despite his flaws, is a good person who tries to justice and the truth no matter what the outcome. At the end of the play he accepts responsibility for his actions. He punishes himself and will live the rest of his life in general misery. Jocasta would rather live in the dark when she realizes the possibility that Oedipus may be her son .
This play is legendary, A timeless classic.
