mswatson 's review for:
All Boys Aren't Blue
by George M. Johnson
YA. This is a memoir. I think I went into this expecting fiction.
I appreciated the author's candor and related on many issues, including the desire to have an example of healthy relationships (even the sexual information) as an adolescent. There's so many questions I had that I didn't know how to answer.
That being said, I think this book definitely has a place in an upper middle school/HS library. I appreciated the stories told in this memoir. It felt like the stories you'd gather after growing up with someone your whole life.
Heads up for younger readers: there is sexual content towards the end and descriptions of sexual assault earlier in the book. The author provides a disclaimer at the beginning of the book as well.
