This is definitely a YA and therefore I won't mark it down unfairly compared to adult fantasy. I found all of the key parts to be wonderfully written and exciting but many parts were overly drawn out and could've been cut back to make the book shorter. I personally didn't think the romance was necessary as the family bonds were interesting enough themselves.
