It's Been a Pleasure, Noni Blake
by Claire Christian
I went into It's Been A Pleasure, Noni Blake expecting something fun and fluffy. And it is such a fun read. There's so much joy that radiates from the story and the characters. But there was also so much more to the story - it's not a fluffy book at all.
I felt a whole spectrum of emotions - I laughed out loud (the trumpet!), I cried. More than once. I was swept along in the messy, beautiful story of Noni and her pleasure quest. I loved every minute of it.
I resonated with so much of Noni's character. I care too much about what people think, I can overthink any situation and sometimes feel like a 15 year old in a 30-something body. Noni is awkward and charming, funny and so damn relatable. Can she be my friend, please?
Noni had a lot to teach me about giving less of a f***, making pleasure a priority and really owning who I am and what makes me happy. I want to start prioritising my happiness more.
And while I won't be jumping on a plane to Europe to track down a missed love connection anytime soon (*cough* Covid and being happy in my relationship) but I'll be dancing more, laughing more and seeking joy in my every day. Noni might not realise it, but she's such an empowering and uplifting character.
From laugh out loud sexcapades to moments that make you sob; from touching friendships and heart-swooning relationships IBAPNB has it all. And if you're in to men, you'll be swept off your feet by The Viking too.
I loved, loved, loved it. If I didn't have to sleep/parent I would have finished this in a day. Pretty sure It's Been A Pleasure, Noni Blake will be my fave book for the year.
