Great look into class conscious England right after the first World War. Things are changing, but still have a foot in the old ways. Main character Frances's dull life is going to change a bit too fast. The unfolding of this unlikely story seems so plausible when you are reading Waters' novel! It's long but I was hooked and couldn't keep my nose out of the pages until it was done.
