2.5 ⭐️ - maybe?

this was disappointing.

and i don’t really know why.

maybe i wasn’t in the right mood for this.
i just found this boring.

for the most parts it read like a slightly different version of “from blood and ash”.
minimal changes made, slightly more world building info but mostly in sections that i could not have cared less about!

you can’t read this without having read at least the first one of the blood and ash series! so let’s just say it like it is! this is a filler book like a 3.5 thing between the others!
but nothing really happens in this book that we d id t already experience slightly different with different characters in the other books before.

different name, slightly different power but plot wise rinse and repeat.

only this book felt less overall.
the characters felt duller and i didn’t get into the romance - or i should say i didn’t see that romance even less than the one in the blood and ash one!

and this book was at least 300 pages to long.
it could have done what it was doing in 300 to 350 pages MAX and at least it wouldn’t have felt as dragged out and repetitive.

i don’t know if i was just not in the mood for this particular book and type of writing.

maybe i should have picked up something with actual food writing and plot and story and characters instead of trying to read - and being unhappy the entire time while doing so  - a fluffy marshmallow cotton candy kind of read. that can be fun in the right mind set but is just ridiculous and stupid to read if the brain refuses to shut up and try to actually make sense with what’s happening and tries to apply logic into a situation where logic has no place -aka this book (and sadly most other currently published romantic fantasy books)

i might reread this book at some point and rewrite this review and enjoyed the book.

but right now i am dissatisfied and disappointed by having read over 600 pages of a book that didn’t really give me anything besides a predictable cliffhanger at the end.
