Thirteen Reasons Why
by Jay Asher
This book is just as good as I remember it being. I know a lot of people will read this book and think that what Hannah did was cruel. How could someone write a book like this?
This book is meant to teach us something. It's meant to teach teenagers that everything we do and everything we say has consequences. That innocent joke you made about someone may not be so innocent. That rumor you heard, it may be far from the truth. Teenagers are cruel to each other for no reason other than entertainment and it needs to stop. Teen suicide as a result of bullying is a real thing. It's an important topic to talk about. Now more than ever.
I first read this book in high school and it tore me apart. I went out of my way to be kind to people in high school after reading this book.
You know what I hope. I hope that this book eventually gets on a summer reading list. Or that teachers decide to show the Netflix show in class. Because most kids don't think about the consequences of their actions. And maybe, just maybe, this would make them think about what they're going to do or say before they do it or say it.
I highly recommend reading this book and if you know someone in high school or someone who's about to enter high school I recommend giving them this book to read. Because this book also shows you that no matter what happens and no matter what you think, there's always someone out there who cares enough about you to want to do something to help you. And that's the most important thing to take away from this. Clay would have done anything to stop her because he cared more than he knew how to express.
