The Confessions of Frannie Langton
by Sara Collins
slow-paced
Well written and an excellent work of historical fiction, but if you hate frustrating protagonists who make frustrating decisions that make you want to shake some sense into them, maybe avoid this one? Frannie willfully ignores every single piece of good advice other women in her social class who have shared life experience and wisdom (Phibba, Sal, Pru) have ever given her to go chasing after some white woman who honestly barely seems to care about Frannie, and it made me want to scream out of frustration at least 30 times while reading. Sal saying she was DONE hearing Frannie blabber about her white woman was the most relatable feeling in this entire novel.
