This book really wasn’t for me.

How it went in my view:

Noir ambiance, Japanese brand name dropping, overly described texture, under described location, character moves from scene to scene without notice, hard sex from time to time, more weird change of scene, more brand-name dropping, detailed technobabble that aged very poorly. Rinse and repeat.

The ending is more interesting but the book has more value as one of the firsts cyberpunk novels that as a work in itself (basically, it’s an artifact…). It certainly was original and well received in the mid 80s, but it is not particularly well crafted and is really dated. It’s also unpleasant to read, with the prose being repetitive, the characters very caricatural and the whole thing confusing for the sake of it.
