I recently finished The Many Selves of Katherine North by Emma Geen
and i really want to write some long review of it, but i have no idea where to start.
I REALLY liked this book. I love books that allow you to explore novel ideas and concepts and wow this one delivered. Katherine North is a phenomenaut which means she gets to project her conciousness onto animals, which is AWESOME. the writer does an amazing job of imagining what it would be like being a human mind in an animal body, and how doing that for a job would destroy your mental health when trying to live as a human. i've read a lot of books critisising the main character for being unlikable and annoying but it feels like that makes perfect sense given how she goes through her life, and it feels believable, expecially keeping in mind this is a 19 year old who spend like half of her life growing up in the bodies of various animals. there were some scenes that were slightly...
the whale scene, as well as the horny elephants
they were a bit much in the sense of... well, sexual content, even though it wasnt very explicit. and towards the end of the book, two timelines with the same character intertwining gets confusing...
but all in all this book projects a neat way of exploring both the world and show a story of self discovery.
the romance at the end felt natural too, without it taking up the entire story beforehand
