Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
5.0

I wish I could give this more than five stars. This is the most amazing book on the art of writing that I have ever read. Elizabeth Gilbert really /gets/ it. She understands the life of a creative on an intense level, one I’ve never seen in blog posts or books before. She understands the need and drive and desperation to create no matter what, and boy does she have something to say about all that. This book came into my life at the perfect time, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every word of it and already want to reread it. I highly recommend it to any and all creatives. She manages to highlight the importance of creativity—and also its insignificance, something that was initially hard to take, but once accepted has become somewhat of a burden lifted. Being a creative soul can be a great burden, but Gilbert urges us to make that burden into wings that will help us see life from a new, exciting perspective. Creativity is /fun/, and Gilbert reminds us of this, and many other vital aspects of creative life. So go, read this book, and enjoy your creativity; that’s what it’s all about, anyway.
