One Day by David Nicholls
3.0

OK so first of all: I've seen the movie a couple of years ago and I was completely in love with it. One of my favorite movies of all time. You can imagine my happiness when I found out the movie was originally a book! I bought it and I saved it for a special occasion to read. Most of the time, books are better than the movies.

This book I read in two readinggroups hehe! The one I have toghether with my mom, and with my group on Goodreads. It all came perfectly together!

I often read in English and it's not a problem for me. But this book was different. I still understood everything, but I read a lot slower than usual. That's why it toook so much time for me to finish this book.

Well, that's not the only reason it took me so long. I already knew the story (I do remember one of my favorite movies!), so I kindda knew what was coming. And it took soooooooo long for the story to arrive, and than it was finished so quickly. So: I don't like the ratio between the different statuses in the book. You will know what I mean when you've read it.

What I do like about the book is the writing idea: one day of every year. Especially because in the beginning of the book, this is very well executed. You read about the 15 july of that year in a way as if you've just read about the 14th and will read about the 16th next. But you don't. It makes you wonder about what happened, it makes you puzzle. I like that. Later on in the book, there is more telling and remembering. It is good for the storyline, but sometimes it felt as an easy way out, while it wasn;t necessary everywhere.

To conclude: i expected a lot of this book, 5 stars. But it disappointed me. I do like the day-telling, and the story it very lovely of course. But I have to admit: if I didn't knew how the sotry would develop, I don;t know if I would have finished this book..
