Reign of the Fallen
by Sarah Glenn Marsh
Odessa is a necromancer, which means she helps kill people to bring people back by dousing their dead bodies in milk, then going into the dead lands with her partner, Evander and the dead person’s kin. While in the dead lands, Odessa, Evander, and the dead person’s kin will find the spirit and bring them through the gate. They do this so a person does not become a Shade, which are very dangerous and are considered monsters.
While Odessa, also known as Sparrow and her partner Evander are on an assignment to kill the King and bring his spirit back with the help of Princess Valoria they find one of their instructors dead by a strong Shade.
This brings Evander, Odessa, Master Cymbre, Jax, and Simone to investigate Master Nicanor’s death. People start to go missing and popping up as Shades. This brings them to wander why are people disappearing and becoming Shades. Also, why are the Shades so strong and coming from the Deadlands?
One of their trips to the Deadlands to hunt down a powerful Shade, a person that is very close to Odessa dies, she spirals out of control. She becomes depressed and develops an addiction to potions to feel numb as well as other things.
The Shade problem is getting worse and Odessa is needed, but can she tell reality from hallucinations?
The world building is well done as well as the magic system in the book is intriguing. I found the story enjoyable as well as the characters and their developments, as well as the romances.
I am excited for book two of this series and am wondering what will happen since the book wrapped up very well.
