rozarka 's review for:
In Other Lands
by Sarah Rees Brennan
I started really great; interesting characters, decent worldbuilding, exploring gender roles and stereotypes in a funny way that didn't feel forced (I laughed a lot during those parts and was so sure I was gonna love the book...). But the plot was somehow lost in the middle. Suddenly, it was all about romance and making out (and figuring oneself out, as it is a YA/coming of age story) and nothing was moving forward. Exploring the world, different races' politics, war and battles, everything that could make the story more interesting and not only about relationships was moved to sidelines. I consider myself to be a person who loves character-driven stories more than plot-driven ones but this was too much even for me.
