Another dietetics/food science student checking in. I don't think this book is entirely without merit, but I think the author takes a lot of correlational studies to their furthest reaches. I think for a doctor who is preaching holistic health, there is far too much focus on individual nutrients rather than a comprehensive health approach. She would do well to do her own research into why studies emphasizing one or two foods and nutrients usually have having from varying libby groups (pomegranates, blueberries, and eggs are frequently among her recommendations to name a few).
Humans don't eat nutrients. We eat food, and, yes, we would all do well to eat less sugar, less meat, and fewer processed foods. I keep coming back to Michael Pollan's advice:
"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."
