Not a great read. First, the kids don't sound or act like real kids. They are either way too naive or too grownup. I didn't connect to it care about any of the characters.

Second the racist asian stereotypes were cringe, even for a book written in the 80s. The fatphobic description of the djinn was weak the first time, but by the end of was just tired. Plus the inexplicable he kills with his penis (I guess??) Just why?
