Positives: female protagonist is interesting and reader is inclined to be sympathetic toward her. The "bad guys" are all different and that keeps the readers interest as they serially react to danger. This guy can write about when things go wrong (and for so many of these characters, so often, they do)!

It is a crime thriller, but the characters make it more fun than that.

Negatives: Feels sort of like Grimm meets Midsomer Murders but that's not all bad and it kept me turning the pages.

It would make a good episode on Midsomer Murders if the regular cast had to go on vacation and the Sergeant had to tell Barnaby what happened while he was away.

The body count is about right

and it reads like a script.
