House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
3.0
adventurous challenging dark emotional hopeful fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The characters really GO THROUGH IT but the moral and ethical dilemmas as well as social and political commentary are far more complex and deeper than prior books/series. BUTTTTTT—-

I have now lowered my rating on this book three times because the more distance I get from it the more annoyed I become. The plot is a mess, the characters are not acting like they should, and the
time we get in Velaris is so freaking annoying and UNDERGROUND THE WHOLE TIME??? WTAF, SARAH?
The more I ruminate the angrier I get about Bryce’s complete 180 as a character and her treatment of Hunt. The trauma in the first half of this book is off the chain - so much worse than Kingdom of Ash - and for what? Why? To what end?
