Becoming by Michelle Obama
5.0

I have always admired Michelle Obama because of her initiative she took with child obesity and making that better so I was hoping to get more insight as to how and why she decided to do more with that. This book had a ton of information so it did cover that along with a lot more. She did a lot while her husband was in office, especially for someone who didn't have an interest in politics.

I enjoyed hearing about some of her experiences through childhood and her new adulthood and how she became the person she is and the people she interacted with shaped her to the person she is today. I liked that she gave law school students, who had a B on their transcripts or not as many extra activities, a fighting chance because maybe they didnt have the same opportunities as those with a better looking resume.

When she talked about her friend, at the young age of 26, was dying of cancer, it reminded me of my thoughts I had with my sister. How I also judged her for the choices she chose to "live life". I liked how Michelle realized that those choices her friend made were experiences she chose were the right choices because it was the ones she was supposed to experience and that was living life to the fullest "the right way".

I really liked that throughout the whole book it felt very unbiased between political parties. She even talked about how her and Barack had the same mindset that the United States was divided in the sense of red and blue and how they didn't want that. But then when Trump got introduced (towards the end of the book/transitioning between presidency), I felt the hate. Whether it is warranted or not, the book then became political and kinda turned me off a bit.
