Character
Beautifully written with a lovely sense of place, set in Northern Ireland in the 40s and 60s. As tensions run high, a man and a woman navigate their marriage with the shadow of what happened to both of them separately 20 years ago hangs over them.
If you enjoy quiet portrayals of family life, with a few secrets here and there, which help you get a feel of the political landscape at the time, you should check out this debut. There were a couple of racially insensitive lines from characters which were ‘of the time’ but honestly which could have been left out and literally nothing would have been different.
