There were parts of this book that were truly beautiful to read. The first couple of vignettes are by turn unsettling and comforting, depicting family life that's both nurturing and destructive. However, the book progresses at breakneck speed and could do more if it was slower towards the end & also reveled the end in a much more suspenseful way. Overall, it was a gripping novella.
