Dear Justyce by Nic Stone
5.0

Okay wow. Dear Martin was one of my favorite reads of 2020 and this book is 100% also going to be in that list as well. First, I loved the way this story was told. Between letters, snapshots, flashbacks, and present, you really got such a feel for what was happening and Quan’s emotions throughout the book. I loved his letters to Justyce and how he wrote. They were serious but also really showed off his personality and helped you get to know who he was. I really liked that you saw Quan and Justyce’s friendship grow through the book even though you mainly saw Quan’s letters. Second, this book was an incredible look into the extremely awful way the justice system treats people of color. This book is incredibly eye opening to what people across the country deal with every single day. This book is such an incredible book that I feel like high schoolers should be reading. Just like Dear Martin, I wish I would’ve read this book when I was younger. This book is a super quick read because you don’t want to put down. Nic Stone is an amazing author and if you haven’t read this one yet, you really need to.
