It's hard to think of anything good to say about this book. While the concept is promising and Kawaguchi uses it in different ways, the prose is as flat and lifeless as his characters and the stories are predictable. The pace is very slow and Kawaguchi overexplains everything that happens, as well as the ultimate message of the book (which really isn't that deep). It's also deeply sexist, which is weird considering all the main characters are women. But it's clear Kawaguchi thinks the only point of a woman's existence is to sacrifice her ambitions - or even her life - to serve her family and male partner. Don't waste your time.
