An interesting nonfiction follow on to Rainbow Milk, my last read, as this book also addresses questions of race, queerness and religion, though this time through the lens of a queer Pakistani-Canadian Muslim. I think the author has now come out as non-binary too, although this part of their identity & journey isn’t discussed in We Have Always Been Here.
I’d recommend it for the perspective alone, though I do wish it had been longer. Some parts felt rushed where it would have been more impactful had the author lingered. But I always feel guilty thinking that about memoirs - it’s not really for me to decide how much an author should share about their inner lives!
