Moon of the Crusted Snow
by Waubgeshig Rice
slow and eerie.
it's rare that i enjoy a post-apocalyptic novel, but i've realised it's because most novels are too broad and rely too much on "let's save the world!". this short tale, instead, explores how the end of the world would affect a small Anishinaabe community in northern canada and how Evan and the band council will save their people. it was perfectly ominous.
