Right from the dedication of this novel you know you are in for a fun ride. Atticus is a 2100 year old druid who could easily pass for a 21 year old slacker. He is in possession of the magical sword Fragarach which has the power to help the owner rule Tuatha De Danann and other realms of gods. Aenghus Og has been trying to get his hands on the sword for centuries, to no avail. Now the time has come for a true battle. As the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

What makes this series stand out is the sass. Atticus has a sassy/fun attitude that is just enjoyable. It doesn’t matter if he is suggesting a rocking motion or talking to his dog Oberon with their mind connection. The other thing that I liked about this first book in the Iron Druid series is that all the religious figures and myths are viable. Christianity is mixed with Buddhism, throw in some vampires and werewolves, and add a dash of Paganism. They all mingle together rather then being reliant on one mythical/religious setting. This is fun for guys and girls alike.
