This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings

dark mysterious tense

I love lesbians and I love vampires so I was so so so excited for this book especially bc it takes place in 1920’s Harlem; however, it didn’t feel like it took place in the 1920’s other than mentions of prohibition and jazz music. The slow burn was fantastic, it was 80% before there was even a show of affection. I enjoyed the dual perspectives, Elise, the oldest daughter of a reaper bullet empire, and Layla, her former best friend who was turned into a reaper at 13. The writing was unique. I loved the way that Layla’s motivations, her grief for her lost humanity, and the hope that she had to maybe regain it, moved the storyline. Elise was everything you’d expect from a heiress. I wish her character was fleshed out more. There were two mentions of what I thought could be OCD but then her compulsion for 7’s was never brought up again. I think Dennings did a great job of describing the fraught relationship between her and her father. I related a lot lol. I wish everything was more fleshed out. It felt very unfinished
