this was fun!
evie was a great character and the story was interesting, the setting great and overall it all worked well together.

i felt like two characters that the book followed partly didn’t really have a purpose overall -one not until the very end the other just felt like they added pages? that the book would have been the same if they would not have been in it.

also i felt a little bored around pages 350-400 because it felt like the plot was moving but not really. as if the same things kept being talked about and happening without any real new information or happenings.

so i think overall this book could have easily been between 150-200 pages less and might have been even better.

that all being said? this book was great.

i loved the 1929 setting and how against the grain evie was and clearly not fitting in and butting heads left and right, not being taken seriously and hating it all. but also being an utterly ridiculous and over the top character that sometimes deserves the words being said to it about her.

i loved how self aware of the north american problems the author is, from racism, to religion to classism… it was well said and i really loved it, especially since it’s in a book targeted towards older YA readers.
