I was hooked, but cautious, from the blurb. Serial killers, gory descriptions, and not to mention the content warnings, all made me wonder why I might think this book is for me. It is, perhaps, the farthest from my conventional genres, saving perhaps horror. But I was taken in quite soon after starting the book - I do like it when a person falls hard, and fast, and expresses.

Rowan and Sloane have a common hobby - killing serial killers. The moment they meet, there is attraction, and Rowan is completely taken in by Sloane. He proposes an annual game between them, to find (and kill) a specific serial killer each year. Note: they only kill really bad people who’ve been killing and harming others. That fact helped me stomach this whole premise a lot better.

As they meet each year, they get to know each other better, and their chemistry deepens.

It’s honestly a very simple love story, if you ignore the specificities of their common hobby. I will admit I was not a fan of some of the gory description - I have a good power of imagination, so I did skim through some paragraphs that existed solely to add to the darkness. But there was fair warning, an entire list of possible triggers, at the very first page, so I was prepared.

I love that Rowan is a chef. I have so much fondness for cooking (and eating), it was such a delightful note. I also really liked the romance between Rowan and Sloane. I love elaborate expression in romance, and they delivered.

Thank you for reading my review. 🌻
