I absolutely loved this read from debut author Megan Bannen. Her storytelling is beautiful and makes me want to keep reading late into the night! Choosing to write a YA novel in a time period that is minimally featured was a fantastic option, while keeping it classic by basing it on the opera, Turandot worked so well and I was drawn immediately into the stories of Jinghua and those around her. The ending had me in such a raw, emotional state, it was hard to finish the book until I calmed down, but Bannen definitely has a talent for investing the emotions of her readers.

Definitely an author to watch out for - can't wait for more!
