A wonderful middle grade book that tackles a lot of relationship and emotional growth without being preachy or too “neat and tidy.” Set in Los Angeles, the main character Nat is a confident 12 year old who seems real and willing to reflect on how her actions may impact others. When Nat wants to join a synchronized swim team , but her mom and dad say no, she decides to charge ahead (something she often does with not so great consequences/reactions) and join behind their backs. Secrets can’t stay secrets forever and soon Nat has too many disappointed and questioning people to answer to.
