I’m not rating this book as I suspect it is much better than I can understand. Usually I would rate purely on my enjoyment; in which case it gets 2 stars, but in this case doing so feels really unfair. I bought this after the Netflix documentary: Fantastic Fungi, convinced me I had a new, budding interest in mushrooms and fungi. While I do think they’re cool, I think I’ll leave my interest with the documentary. It is clearly not large enough to sustain reading a whole book on the topic. - For most of the second half, I skim read at best. 

Basically, if you’re more scientifically minded than I, you might really love this book. For me the italicised Latin names, the dates, figures, and diagrams caused my eyes to glaze over. This is a shame as you can tell Merlin Sheldrake’s enthusiasm and Entangled Life is clearly well researched.  I enjoyed the more personal parts (and the bits about animals), everything else was just not for me. 

I would say that this is for intermediate Fungi enthusiasts.
