It had been a very long time since I had read any Updike, and an even longer time since I had seen this movie. I did not remember how dense the writing would be. The story itself was interesting enough, as I vaguely remembered from the film, but I feel I probably missed a lot of things on my first read-through. I did like how very New England the book was, and I don't know how well that would translate to non-native readers.
