The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
4.0

I've had so many people recommend this book and I finally got to it! I totally understand why so many people loved it because I did too.

Chakraborty did such an amazing job with the world building in this book. I mean the descriptions are amazing and her writing was beautiful. I was sucked into this world from the beginning. There is a lot to take in but reading at a slower pace to fully grasp everything, did not bother me.

Nahri was so feisty and I loved it. This book can get dark and brutal but Nahri's humor really helped break that up. I love how she really doesn't care what people think. She's only ever been trying to figure out a way to live. She's a thief and spent most of her life tricking people. She doesn't rely on anyone and I love how she never loses that, even in the end.

Then we have Dara. I had a hard time trying to figure this guy out! I still don't quite know everything but I do love him. He is brutal and kind of a jerk. He has also had a hard life and it's hard not to feel for him. Although, he does become more lovable when it comes to Nahri. He is protecting her and doesn't quite understand that she doesn't want to be protected. Their banter is so hilarious and I loved it so much. I loved them so much!

Ali is someone that I was not a fan of. I really wish that this book would have had Dara's POV instead of Ali's. I get that we needed to learn a lot from the other side but he is just someone that annoyed me. I am still not a fan and I think he's not a good person in general.

I really enjoyed this one and I'm really looking forward to the next book! I love how I got so many Aladdin feels too. Magic carpet? Yes! There's so much history and it's really cool. I love that she added a glossary in the back to help keep track of all the names/words that I did not know!
