The third and final book in the “Illuminae Files” was what I expected it to be. That means it was epic and wonderful, filled with action and suspense, but with a very similar demographic as the previous two instalments in the series.

THE GOOD
How does one begin to describe what is good about this book?
- The most original thing about this series is definitely the format, it is written in logs and transcripts. It is beautiful and new, and it brings something really special to the reading experience.
- The story itself isn’t bad. It might not be the most original, but it is intriguing, and it keeps you hooked.
- It is also very well written. It is very different from other books and that makes it difficult to compare this writing style to other authors’. However, it is enjoyable and there are some really beautiful sentences thrown in there.

THE BAD
- The fricking repetition!! The first book was awesome, the second was awesome as well, but I was slightly annoyed that the books seemed so similar. The third book was still awesome, BUT WHY DO YOU WRITE THE SAME PLOT THREE TIMES?! Things that recurred in the books:
~The romance! It was girl x boy who have a complicated relationship (or in the 2nd book, none at all) They are thrown into this war between BeiTech and WUC and fall back in love/get together while everything is falling apart around them.
~The death-turns-out-to-be-not-death. It was just unbelievable that all seven main characters survived the whole series. Ezra “died” twice. Nik “died” twice. Hannah “died” once. Aidan “died” like four or five times. I didn’t count the others, but there were a lot of death-not-death. It gets boring after a while.
~The massive unknown-people-massacre.
Illuminae: The crew on Copernicus.
Gemina: The whole wing that the air was shut off to.
Obsidio: The 4th and 5th levels that Aidan sacrificed.
Because, when you aren’t willing to kill your main characters but still need people to think it is slightly realistic, you kill masses and masses of unnamed/unimportant characters.

Overall, I liked it. It lived up to my expectations and went out with quite a bang. And maybe I am a little happy that my favourites didn’t die, even if it is unrealistic.
