Champion
by Marie Lu
I was not sure what to expect with Champion. I felt that the second book in the series, Prodigy, could have been better. That is until the end when I pulled back into the story. I started Champion right after.
I absolutely loved this book. I never wanted to put it down, although I did. . . because life. When I finished the book I was left with a major book hangover. I did not want to leave the characters. So, I did what any logical person does - I went and read the short story prequels.
I love Marie Lu's writing. She has been added to my list of favorite authors. Considering how much I read, this is not a large list. She has great characters, amazing writing skills, and awesome word building. She does tend to have a bit of a hang over on her second book. Not on her third though.
There was a part of Prodigy that made no sense. June spends half of the novel sick and it just did not fit with the plot at all. I thought it brought Prodigy's quality down a lot. The sickness was, thankfully, brought into the plot. It made sense. Although, I still think the whole aspect could have been tightened to be a more cohesive plot line.
I am so happy that I still have the graphic novel versions left to read. I am even happier that Marie Lu is writing a fourth book in this world!!
