I heard about this book twice in quick succession earlier this month and decided I'd better read it, first from the ladies of One Tree Hill either during their Drama Girls podcast or on their Instagrams and then again on the Little Bit Culty podcast, since Joy is an acquaintance of Sarah's and told her about it too. I actually listened to their interview of the author before reading the book and may go back to listen to it again now. Elizabeth's parents were fed up with her attitude as a teenager (also, her undiagnosed and untreated mental illness that they assumed was teenage attitude) and paid for her kidnapping. Basically, these two escorts came and got her during the night to take her to a discipline program in the woods in another state as the first step of attending a therapeutic boarding school. These schools and programs are definitely abusive and often do more harm to the kids who attend them. Elizabeth's story is harrowing and interesting but there are definitely a lot of potential triggers for folks in this one (sorry for not listing them).
