First off, I’ve got to say I really loved On the DL. I was looking forward to this book so much, especially after how it was left off. It fell a little flat for me.
I’m quite disappointed how we didn’t really get to see Mal and Slade’s confrontation after the end of On the DL. Seriously, after how it was left off, I felt a little ripped off.
I also felt that all the foreshadowing was a little much, and I felt that not much came from it. With the amount there was, I was expecting a lot more drama, and there was very little of it.
Something else I’ve noticed over the course of Laramie’s books, is the amount of sexy in them. Normally it’s not a bad thing, but after a while it becomes repetitive and doesn’t do anything for the story. In fact, I feel it could been improved if some was removed and Slade and Mal actually talked. I felt they didn’t do anywhere near as much as they needed to. Again, I wanted an explosive confrontation and I didn’t get it.
Still, it’s a solid book and I did enjoy both of them. Worth a try!
