I hesitated to buy Wynd when I first heard about it. Tynion's other creator-owned work, The Woods, didn't quite click with me, nor did the book's artist Dialynus. But the cover was so cute and the hype so big that I had to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! Wynd is a charming, inclusive, all-ages fantasy story about a boy learning not to be afraid of who he is or the bigotry that surrounds him.

It's a *chunky* book at +250 pages, but Wynd's plot is expertly paced and dedicates just enough time to the emotional bits of the story that the characters can experience those moments without it feeling like someone is padding out the page. That's a tough tightrope to walk in comics, but Tynion does it without breaking a sweat.

Speaking of the page, Dialynus approaches this series with a more cartoony style than he did in The Woods. His facial expressions in particular are bigger and more exaggerated and the emotions he's able to convey on these characters is marvelous. Those emotional moments in the story would not have hit so hard without him. It's not the only style he uses in this book either! During a mythology lesson, Dialynus swaps over to this softer, painted look that I always love to see in fantasy stories. If they made these scenes into a poster or tapestry I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Wynd Vol. 1 is a lovingly crafted book and an absolute STEAL at $15. I am *hooked* and I can't wait for the next collection.
