Eileen is the tale of a 24 year old woman in 1964, told in reflective from her old age. Eileen is a secretary at a prison and responsible for her ailing alcoholic father. 

The dominant portion of this book is a messy look into Eileen’s twisted inner monologue. As we draw near the end, a plot builds as a result of a magnetic friendship between Eileen and Rebecca, another employee at the prison. The events that follow are disturbing and retribution for many sins. 

This is a propulsive read, while technically slow paced. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend checking content warnings first before beginning this dark and fascinating book.
